The Journey (finally) Begins :)

As of 2:15 June 24, we became nomads! We left our Wichita home, with a teary sendoff from Matt and neighbors, and headed west. (Can I just say I have the most wonderful son! He spent almost 2 weeks helping us clean and pack. Don’t know how we would have been ready to go without him!) 20 minutes into the drive we received a phone call that out solar panels would not be ready for installation until Monday instead of Friday. :O

Thank goodness for Campendium and Harvest Hosts. I shifted our plans and it all worked out.

Yes, the planner/organizer in me shed a few anxious tears. Nothing that a little Pomegranate Vodka from a dear friend couldn’t fix at noon-thirty the next day. (Thank you Velma!) So, I’ve channeled my inner Gumbi and am living a flexible life. 7 days in I can say…I got this! 🙂

Here’s some highlights from our 1st week on the road…

Chasing sunsets into Colorful Colorado meant arriving at our campground (Bear Creek Lake Park) in the Dark. Don't want to make a habit of that!! Unexpected windstorms blew over the mountains. Thanks to Matt we now have better weather apps! Walks by the Colorado River. And Sugar Beet spirits at Stoneyard Distillery. Our first stay at a Harvest Host site.
Driving West on I-70 into the Beehive State. The dually pulled our Beast up and over mountains and I only closed my eyes a few times!! :) Our overnight accommodations weren't exactly 5 star, but they were FREE! And the prairie dogs, rabbits, and some sort of weasel were entertaining to watch. Now that we have 6 solar panels installed we are ready for life off the grid! FREE! FREE! FREE!
PS...that's John up on the roof checking out the install.
The best thing about the Beaver State is you can stay overnight for FREE in their rest stops! This one had space for 23 big rigs, lots of green space for playing, and was right over the border. The 2 cute faces in the window are my hide and seek buddies.
We blew into the Evergreen State and landed at our second harvest host sight, Paradisos del Sol. The owners have created a charming farmery, a winery and organic farm. We chuckled at the antics of the chickens, turkeys, sheep, and Miss Piggy. And marveled at the amazing sunsets with Mt. Rainier in the distance. The wine wasn't bad either! ;)
