This trip to the Sunshine State was all about connecting with friends. We spent November to mid February with family in SC and GA. Now we’re heading to Pensacola, FL to spend a week with our friends, Chris and Karen.
But 1st an overnight at a Harvest Host in Tallahassee. Totally recommend this host. It is a easy on and off I-10. Parking is a big grassy field. And there’s a nice sidewalk that traverses the grounds, so I could get a good walk in!
Traveled 248 miles. 4 hours and some change!
Five Flags RV Park
I knew when I saw this place on line and read the reviews, we would love it! Plus the price was right…$190 for a week! Five Flags RV Park is the quirkiest park we have had the delight to stay in. And our site on the end of the row had 3 palm trees in a small grassy area. It was like our own little island paradise! The art work was so much fun! 🙂 And the laundry trollies! What a great re-use! The people here are like a community. The majority live here full time and I can see why! We will definitely be back here!
Traveled 205 miles. 3 hour i-sh! (Time Zone shift back to Central Time)
Sister Friends are the Best
Being with Sister Chris makes my heart happy! Sadly, Sister Karen couldn’t join us. Daughter Kayla apparently trumps sisters! Shopping and Happy Hours. Beach Days and Downtown Walks. New memories were made!
Perdido Key and the Flora-Bama Bar
“The bridge is out!” (said with Jamie Lee Curtis’ screaming voice from the movie True Lies) So you can’t get to Pensacola Beach unless you drive an hour and half. Well, that ain’t happening. Google maps says Perdido Key is much closer and they have beach bars too! Perdido Key here we come…
Flora-Bama was on the ‘must go to places’ list. It is a HUGE complex with several bars, stages, and restaurants. And you have to walk through it to get to the beach and no outside alcohol allowed. Well, poo! That’s when meeting the owner came in handy! He gave Chris and I drink passes! Bra Slingers were ordered! 🙂 We enjoyed the Florida (or was it Alabama??) sunshine, watched the moonrise and the sunset, then headed for some dinner at the Flora-Bama restaurant! Of course! The local oysters were delish!
Downtown Pensacola
A great afternoon was spent “bar hopping”. If 2 bars count as hopping! Dang we be old! HAHA! I loved the pelican art and then there is the hilarious sign! Don’t say it too fast! LOL
Life isn’t Always a Bed of Roses
Our time is not always spent going and doing, many days are spent doing the usual domestic duties. Maintenance (inside and outside), cleaning, and laundry. We keep an ongoing list of issues that arise as we travel. Some say a 5th wheel is like a rolling earthquake. So we check for “loose screws” at every stop! The silver lining is John is very good at fixing things, like when the fascia came loose from the front cap, or the wooden valance shook loose in the dining area, or or or! With that being shared, we still LOVE life on the road.
We haven’t been everywhere yet, but it’s on our list!
Hello hello hello!!! Can’t believe you are closing in on a year since you pulled out of your driveway here in Wichita. Sure is fun reading your posts! Miss you & are happy for you. Mark & Cyndi
