Sweet Home Alabama

There’s a hidden message in that title!

Gulf Shores Beach Week

Home for the week was SKP Rainbow Plantation in Summerdale, AL about 15 miles north of Gulf Shores. It’s a quiet park and with our Escapees membership we got really good rates.  Including the extra days we stayed because of wicked weather! Flexibility is key when you full time! Plus, we met fellow travelers, Stan and Susan. Look forward to seeing them again! A BIG shout out to Camping World in Tallahassee for allowing us a free overnight with hook ups as we changed plans to escape the storm that was moving across the southeast! Just had to arrive after they closed and leave before they opened.

The weather must have been on crack! It was either chilly and sunny or warm and rainy!  We did get a couple of good beach days. Took our blanket and cooler of Trulys to Gulf Shores for a little fun-shine! 😎 Spent the afternoon relaxing, watching the sun glistening off the water and listening to the crashing waves. Feels like home! 💙

On a great recommendation, we found ourselves on Perdido Bay in the small town of Elberta.  This picturesque spot separates Lower Alabama from Florida. It’s also home to Pirate’s Cove, a local beach bar that some say was inspiration for Jimmy Buffet’s Cheeseburger in Paradise. My research suggests otherwise!  Either way, it was a decent beach burger. 🍔 Plus, we met new friends from “LA,” Michelle and Dave. We hit it off right away sharing stories about our travel adventures.  So glad we shared a table!  They made us feel right at home.

Gal Pal Weekend

I got to have a little March Madness with my gals, Karen and Chris.  Karen drove down from Atlanta, and John dropped me off in Pensacola for the weekend to celebrate her bday!  And boy did we! Wish I took more pics! Started the day with a 4 pitcher margarita lunch (Thank you Sean) and ended with lots of laughter and toddies around the fire.  So fun having their kids there too!  Next day, rinse and repeat! Lol  After several cups of coffee and vegging to reruns of Sex in the City, we decided it was time for food!  Chris treated us to a great brunch at a local favorite, The Coffee Cup. Established in 1945, it still has the same retro vibes.  Expect a “well worth it” wait and try the Crab and Asparagus eggs Benedict. Just sayin’  More laughter filled the evening as we toasted our long lasting friendship and the other half of our circle who still live in Wichita.  Monday came to soon.  At least Pensacola isn’t too far from home.

St. Pat’s Surprise and Lulu’s

More March Madness ensued when Chris drove over from Pensacola to celebrate the “Wearin’ of the Green” with me! 🍀 We drove into Gulf Shores for lunch at Lulu’s.  ‘Cuz where else should 2 crazy sistas celebrate! A little background on Lulu’s. Its the flagship restaurant of fellow coastal southerner, Lucy Buffet. Yup, Jimmy’s crazy little sista! And can she cook! Her signature crab melt nachos were the bomb, the cold beer refreshing! 🍺  Even better was the energy in this place. From our funky-fun gift shop clerk to our flirty-fun waiter, Lucy’s joie de vivre was present. Talk about feeling right at home! (Side note:  2 more locations, Destin and Myrtle Beach.)

Home Sweet Home

In case you haven’t noticed the theme, here’s our Big Reveal! We put an offer on property in coastal Alabama and we are so stinking excited!! 😁  Our new home away from home (we do NOT, repeat, do NOT intend to stop traveling yet) is at Lake Osprey RV Country Club in Elberta, AL.  Our address is on Migratory Way! How perfect is that name for a couple of migratory travelers! There’s a small lake to paddle (sans gators!), pickle ball, a heated pool, and lots of social events. Plus, Alabama is very retiree friendly! The plan is to spend 4-6 weeks a year here and rent it out the rest of the time.  Eventually we will build a little cottage home on it.  So, RV friends if you’re looking for a place near Gulf Shores let us know!  😎

2022 is definitely a year of change! 💜
