Goodbye Michigan, Forward to Wisconsin!
Traveling through Northern Wisconsin isn’t much different than the UP! But, don’t tell the Yoopers I said that! Eh!
We hung out in Superior, Wisconsin at Northland RV Park for the next 2 days. This little mom and pop park is a little tired looking, but the $40 price for full hook up made it worth it, plus the owner is super! I would stay again. There laundry room was clean and in good shape. They also had a swimming pool that was a popular spot with the visiting families.
Traveled 211 miles.
We made the most of our time! After a nap (travel days are exhausting!), we spent the late afternoon exploring Canal Park in Duluth, Minnesota where we watched the Ariel Lift Bridge rise to let a Coast Guard ship pass through the canal. Impressive! The lighthouses were cool too! It was a 3-fer. The black and white North Pier Lighthouse, the red and white South Breakwater Lighthouse, and the Duluth Rear Range Light. After the 30+ minute “Ariel Bridge show”, we wandered the streets looking for a place to dine and found Vikre Distillery instead! Who needs food! John enjoyed a flight of whiskey and I had a fantastic Moscow Mule! We ended up at a McDonalds for dinner! Lol
Can one see too many waterfalls?? We think not!! Pattison State Park is home to the tallest fall in Wisconsin, the Big Maitou and it’s baby brother, the Little Manitou. Nearby is Amnicon Falls State Park which is home to several falls along the Amnicon River. There was also a unique covered bridge that was built using hooks and clips instead of rivets and bolts. Only one of its kind left. The Horton or bow-string Bridge was built in 1898 and moved to it’s current location in 1930. It provides a nice crossing on the Amnicon River.
Of course we also had to go in search of lighthouses! The Superior Entry Lighthouse has been guiding ships since 1913. It’s beacon can be seen 22 miles out and flashes every 5 seconds. It was sad to see the graffiti on this beautiful light. It was a super calm day on the lake.
One more state marked off the list!
